Heard In Lawrence
The "got a dime for a cup of coffee?" boys are visiting Lawrence in increasing numbers and some are having more than ordinary success. The other day a Lawrence business man decided to spend twenty cents for lunch. On his way down the street he was accosted by a man who claimed to be very hungry. The business man gave the man a dime. Going on to a restaurant the business man was surprised to see the recipient of his help enter and order a large steak with all the trimmings. "The fellow seemed to be hungry, all right," the business man said. [LJW, 12-10-32] |

Andy's Thimble Tea Room Opens
It is not necessary to go to some large city to visit a tea room with the French air and Oriental setting. For Andy has achieved that result in her "Thimble Tea Room" in the McCurdy Building in the 1000 block on Mass. The pastel shades of cream, rose, blue and green have been used to make very attractive rooms. The draperies and tapestries have been imported from Belgium, Persia, India and Japan. Wrought iron lamps are hung from the ceiling. Dainty table lamps of delicate shades are used on the tables. The costumes of the girls who serve are smocks also of delicate pastel shades. In keeping with the general atmosphere and color scheme Andy has purchased dishes of the French Bordeaux pattern, so that all blend and harmonize into a perfect reproduction of an elite French tea room. It is Andy's desire to make the Thimble Tea Room the friendly tea room of Lawrence, where courtesy, service, and quality are the predominating factors in her business. It is not necessary to have reservations. The tea room is always open for luncheon and for dinner in the evening to the general public. Reservations are necessary for parties, banquets, special dinners, etc. [DCR, 9-16-26] |
